Success with weight loss is all about attitude. If you wake up every day dreading the oatmeal and banana you’ve already planned on eating for breakfast and the black coffee you can’t have cream in, you’re doing it wrong. They say that variety is the spice of life and variety is the only way you will be able to successfully lose weight and maintain the weight once you lose it. That is why I love Country Heat – the latest dance workout exercise program from Beachbody designed with Autumn Calabrese. It is a program that is packed with 6 different country dance music workouts that are just 30 minutes or under each and designed to help you burn calories fast with low-impact yet high-intensity moves created to get your heart rate going.
Country Heat Dance Workout Review
This is an all-inclusive program that has two main components: dance and body conditioning/strengthening workouts in addition to a nutrition and eating plan that is simple and easy to follow. Country Heat doesn’t give you some crazy 3 day plan and say “One size fits all” because every body is built differently and has different needs. A 260 pound man who is 6’4″ has different needs than a 5’4″ woman who weighs 160 pounds. Different plans are required for different weight loss goals and body types. Country Heat helps you follow a formula to determine exactly how many calories you should be eating each day according to your exercise level and body type and then gives you a simple plan to follow that doesn’t require calorie or “points” counting.
After that, you will workout for 6 days a week and take one rest day each week The program also doesn’t assume that every adult has 3 hours a day to spare to drive to the gym, look presentable, find a machine to workout that isn’t being used, use the machine, shower, dry off, and drive back home. Um. Maybe when I was a 19 year old student, but with a family and full-time job, not a chance. All you need to follow Country Heat is less than 30 minutes a day to workout in the comfort and privacy of your own home. So you don’t need to get presentable and doll up for the gym in case some hunk catches your eye. Nope. Throw on your running shoes and a sports bra and pop in the DVD of the day!
The Country Heat Eating Plan: Your Personalized Formula
Okay, so let’s add up all your details and place you in the appropriate calorie bracket for the nutrition and eating plan portion of this program.
Step 1: Multiply your current weight in pounds by 11 = Caloric Base
Step 2: Caloric Base + 250-300 (the amount of Calories burned in each Country Heat workout) = The amount of calories you need each day
Step 3: Subtract your Caloric need – 750 Calories (to lose 1.5 pounds a week) = Your Daily Calorie Target
Let’s do an example. Let’s say we have a woman named Lauren who is 5’5″ and weighs 170 pounds.
Step 1: 170 lbs x 11 = 1,870
Step 2: 1,870 + 300 Calories (from the daily workouts) = 2,170
Step 3: 2,170 – 750 = 1,420 daily calories as a target for the day
That means Lauren can eat no more than 1,420 calories per day on average if she hopes to lose 1.5 pounds each week. Under the Country Heat eating plan, this means she would fall under the 1200-1499 target calorie bracket.
There are several different brackets designed for this program and for each bracket you are allotted a certain number of color coded containers that are included in the program package.
There are a number of tally sheets and printables to use alongside the portion control containers available at this Etsy shop below that has custom designed them according to each calorie bracket:
There are other packages available in higher calorie brackets such as the 1500-1799 calorie bracket available here and the 1800-2099 package available by clicking here. One of the reasons this program is so successful for weight loss is that the containers are easy and simple to use. Once you determine your caloric bracket, you know exactly how many containers you can have each day. And making a simple salad is as easy as throwing two green containers full of fresh veggies, one red container with chopped chicken and an orange container with your favorite salad dressing.
Should I Get the Country Heat Base Kit or Deluxe Kit?
When deciding whether or not to get the essential package or the deluxe package, there are a few things you need to know. First of all, the base kit has everything you need to get started. It contains the following within the kit:
Base Kit Contents:
- 3 DVDs with six workouts in total
- A 30 Day workout calendar
- Complete eating plan and 7 portion control color coded containers
- Drink Mixer/Shaker Cup
- A quick-start guide
If you just want to get going with the workouts and can’t afford the deluxe option, this is perfectly fine to get started with.
However if you want more variety and a few extra workouts to choose from, you might opt for the Deluxe Kit as it contains three extra workouts and an extra set of portion control containers. In addition to the contents of the base kit above, it contains the following:
Deluxe Kit Additional Contents:
- Extra DVD with 3 workouts including Saddle Up, Wild Goose Chase and Cardio-Round Up
- A Deluxe Day workout calendar
- An extra set of portion control containers plus a large blue box for mixing containers together to create salads, etc.
Overall the Deluxe option is great if you want extra containers to help you with the nutrition part of the program and also if you think you might like more variety other than the 6 base workouts so you can mix and match as you progress through the 30 day challenge.
Pros and Cons of the Program:
If you love country music, this is definitely a custom tailored program for you. It is as Country as it gets and the track list is packed with old favorites and even new songs designed just for this workout series.
If you love dancing (I sure do), this is a fun way to burn calories and get stronger without doing traditional kick/punch type moves and monotonous squats and lunges. It is also great for anyone who struggles with their knees and needs to do low-impact moves. You can sweat, burn tons of calories but not hurt or harm your joints and knees like other more athletic based workouts.
The program teaches you all about how to eat healthily and begin making lifestyle changes that will lead to permanent weight loss. By using the portion control containers in addition to doing the workouts 6 days a week, you’ve covered all the bases and the essentials to weight loss and will be well on your way.
If you are an advanced exerciser and used to doing weighted squats, lunges, burpees and plyometrics, you might think this program is a bit too easy for you. In that case, I wouldn’t give up entirely on the idea of incorporating this into your daily routine. Rather, it might be a great workout for you to do on your active recovery or rest days, or as a cardio boost on weight training days. You could also use some of these workouts to supplement other cardio you do during the week and do a hybrid of this program with a more advanced program.
If you don’t like country music at all, forget this program. It won’t be for you. But if you enjoy dancing regardless of the music or just swinging your hips and having a great time while exercising, you’ll love this program with every part of you.
Overall, Country Heat is an excellent program for those who love dancing, want to lose weight or get in shape and crave a low-impact workout that provides a high calorie burn.
